RAYV Compatibility Explained
RAYV Talk | Anil | January 4, 2008 at 11:00 amEver go to a restaurant that a friend has recommended and afterwards find yourself saying “What the $#@?! was he thinking telling me that place was good?!”. Enter RAYV Compatibility.
You see, it’s very common for people to go to the same places, and even have the exact same experiences, yet rate them differently. That’s because different people care about different things (pretend dramatic music is playing in the background and this whole post becomes much more intriguing).
So we introduced RAYV Compatibility to help you decide which reviews you can trust, and which ones you might not want to put too much weight behind.
The good news is it’s dead easy. First, you go to your profile page and answer the questions at the bottom of the page under RAYV Compatibility. Then, you look for reviews that are compatible with your profile. That’s it.
Let’s look at an example:

Let’s say I was looking at a particular business and I saw the two reviews above. Ian gave the place 5 stars, but Jess only gave it 3 stars. Which one do I trust? Well, if you look at the compatibility guage, you’ll see Ian and I are 84% compatible (we spend far too much time together). Jess and I, on the other hand, are only 16% compatible (and she’s my wife! I guess opposites do attract!). Chances are, as much as it means my wife will hurt me (and rest assured, she will hurt me), I would trust Ian’s opinion more than Jess’.
So make sure you complete your profile and start looking for other people online that look for similar things when reviewing a business – chances are, you’re more likely to have the same feelings toward a given business that they did. Oh, and also look at how many reviews they’ve written and the number of high-fives they’ve received (next to their picture) as this will also tell you how trustworthy they are.
Anil.
P.S. I love you Jess!
