Here is a great way to spend a day if your an amateur or professional cat lover, The 2010 Summer Cat Show presented by Queensland Feline Association.

There will be all sorts of breeds,from kittens and cats.

Watch the felines being judged. Also a chance to talk to breeders and exhibitors.

If your looking for a new kitten for the family this is always a great place to start.

The 5th Annual Australian B-Boy Championships

Saturday 13th December 2008

Celebrating their 5th anniversary, the Australian Breakdance Championships, are back in Sydney this December, hosting the top eight crews from around Australia battling it out for the title. Crews will compete for a cash prize from Nutrient Water, bragging rights, and the title of the offical number one breakdancer in the nation.

The international guest judges will include former World B-boy Champion Juse Boogy from the Massive Monkees crew, Seattle, USA. He will be performing on the night along co-judges Ill-Will direct from the Bronx NYC and Pepito, Australia’s number one International. Carlo “JESTER” Sorono (SYTYCD) will also make an appearance.

Sydney based crew, SKB, will be defending their title. However, the standard of b-boying in Australia has once again risen and former champions Fresh Sox from Melbourne will be battling harder than ever to win and make breaking history with a fourth championship!

Australia’s best b-girls will also be battling it out in a ‘one on one’ contest.

Music will be courtesy of Australia’s top B-boy DJ’s and will feature a special guest set by DJ Jumps from The Cat Empire.

Sun 23rd – Jazz in the Garden (Vaucluse)

We ‘really’ hope the weather holds out for this one! Come and join us (and quite a few others we should imagine) down at Vaucluse House this Sunday for Jazz in the Garden.

Sit under a starlit sky and listen to the young blood of Australian jazz talent in the picturesque surrounds of this harbourside estate. Bring a rug, pack a picnic or take advantage of the selection of food available and a range of wines from the Angove Wine Bar on sale throughout the evening.

6pm – KRISTIN BERARDI with JAZZGROOVE MOTHERSHIP ORCHESTRA
Formed in 2003 to present world class performances of jazz orchestral music and to further develop jazz orchestra and big band as an art form, the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra is the most consolidated assemblage of respected young improvising talent in Australia and was nominated as Australian Jazz Ensemble of the Year in 2006 & 2007. The orchestra is joined by the exquisite vocalist Kristin Berardi, winner of the 2006 Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition and the Freedman Jazz award, 2007.

7pm - ELIXIR featuring KATIE NOONAN
Praised for her mesmerising stage presence and classically trained voice, Katie has won cult status in Australia, topping both the pop and jazz charts. Her jazz/folk ensemble ELIXIR, featuring Stephen Magnusson on guitar (Melbourne) and Zac Hurren on saxophones (Brisbane), performs a selection of their original material and also new songs from Katie’s highly anticipated brand new album Blackbird – the music of Lennon and McCartney. Katie has just returned from recording this album in New York with jazz legends Joe Lovano, John Scofield, Ron Carter and Lewis Nash.

8pm - CSB (CRUSTY SUITCASE BAND)
A heady cook-up of horns, drums and old-school instrumentation, CSB is the brainchild of two of Sydney’s finest musos, percussion maverick Ben Walsh and jazz legend Matt Ottington. Inspired by powerhouse horns and drums from around the globe, funkified hip hop, swing/jazz harmonies and phat breaks, CSB serves up originals to get your booty shaking.

Newtown Festival

Presented by The Newtown Neighbourhood Centre the Newtown Festival is a fundraiser for the Centre’s services for the disadvantaged in the community.

The Newtown Festival is a rare and wonderful place where community groups, environmental groups, local residents and the broader community can come together in one place for one day and celebrate diversity and once again experience the true sense of ‘community’.

The festivals are slowly coming to town. This weekend Dank Street tranforms itself for the annual Dank Street Festival. Growing in size and popularity over the last three years, this year is definitely set to be one of the best to date.

Expect more entertainment, art, food and fun than ever before to celebrate one of Sydney’s most interesting precincts.

Entertainment on the day comes in the form of Boom Band Krewe, The Resurrectors, Tracy Redhead, The Donovans as well as DJ’s Leigh Wood, and Steve Griffiths, art galleries, Artists Market, Design Market and Arty Pants area just for kids.

(Sat 25 Oct) Double Bay Growers Market & Fair Day

A new market is rolling in to town and by the looks of it, this one is set to make an impression.

Guilfoyle Park (Double Bay) will be taken over this Saturday (and the 3rd Saturday of every month thereafter) for the Double Bay Growers Market.

Definitely an attraction for the full family – expect an array of culinary and visual delights with a healthy offering of organic fresh food supplies.

If this isn’t enough, Saturday also sees Transvaal Avenue (you know, the one with little boutique shops) transformed for a Fair Day -with activities for the kids, food & wine, operatic tones from the Opera Australia singers and some eye candy in the form of a classic car lineup.

Guess we’ll be seeing your down in Double Bay on Saturday morning then!

Sculpture by the Sea (16 Oct – 2 Nov)

This is always a winner on a sunny day or warm evening. Whilst the sculptures are always impressive to look at – this is also set along the fantastic coastal walk between Bondi Beach and Tamarama.

Sculpture by the Sea is Australia’s largest annual outdoor ‘free to the public’ exhibition of sculpture. The 2008 exhibition features over 100 sculptures from 7 different countries and will run for a total of three weeks.

A great day for the family or with friends.

(Surry Hills) Prince Alfred Park Swimming Pool – Update

Fran J recently added a review about the Prince Alfred Park Swimming Pool in Surry Hills. We’ve been to this pool a few times chilling out with the usual suspects from in and around Surry Hills. As Fran J said in her review, it’s not the most glamorous of public pools in Sydney – but it’s always been a pretty cool place to chill out in the Summer sun. At the moment, as most Surry Hills residents will know, the pool is reflecting somewhat of a building site, with sleepers on the grass and the pool collecting leaves and rubbish as it’s been emptied. But, do not fear – this is all in preparation for a full redevelopment. It’s been a while since anything has happened over there and some of you (if you’re local) might be wondering what’s going on. We’ve been scratching our heads that’s for sure. As a bit of an update, the City of Sydney have recently announced that work will commence on the new pool late November 2008 – at which point the old buildings and pool will start to be removed. Hoorah! However, the replacement of the pool and the start of the new development will begin around April 2009 – and (wait for it) these are expected to be completed around mid 2010.

So – long and short – if you’re hanging around wondering when the pool is going to be complete – you’ve got a couple of years yet! Our recommendation is to head on over to the Victoria Park Swimming Pool located up by Broadway. Failing that, become friends with someone who has a rooftop pool and have a swim in style. We’re opting for the latter. Anyone got a rooftop pool?
